Foreign direct investments as one of the external sources of financing determine the structure and the overall direction of the Slovak economy in a significant way. In the first part of this paper we bring a review of FDI inflows in Slovakia up to now. The next chapter deals with attractive factors of the SR from the view of foreign investors in context of the Central and Eastern European countries and in particular V4 (V5). Issues of the narrow specialization of the Slovak economy are subject of the third part of the paper. In the fourth one we deal with investment incentives in Slovakia and possibilities of increasing their effectiveness. The fifth chapter analyses selected attractive factors for investments, identifies problematic issues and possibilities for improvement. Conclusion summarizes challenges for economic policy of the SR from the view of FDI inflows and their economic effects.
