In the present programming period 2007 - 2013 the Cohesion policy is providing substantial financial amount of financial resources to address regional disparities, infrastructure, SME support, science, research and other important sectors of the economy. The end of the present programming period makes it necessary to analyse the actual achievement of operational programmes and their objectives. This paper aims to analyse the expenditure of Cohesion policy, identification of effects on the Slovak economy and identify possible structural changes as well as the impact of expenditure on mitigating the effects of economic and financial crisis. The identification of existing problems and bottlenecks which are negative affecting the implementation is another important aim of the paper.
