ID number: VEGA 2/0026/15Research of income stratification development allows identifying space for consumption as a contribution to economic growth in domestic demand. After joining the European Union Slovak population expected convergence in income and consumption to the size and structure of the old member states. Crisis after 2008 causes an increase in income inequalities not only among EU countries, but also among regions of Slovakia. Long-term unemployment and high unemployment are factors for growth of poverty in an increasing number of districts in Slovakia and reveal the structural problems of the Slovak economy. Increasing inequalities in income between rural areas and cities accentuates the problem of national economic growth in rural areas. Low wage level and growth of wage inequality in the regions creates low level of pensions in the future, thus fall short of the expected implementation of silver economy in SR. Analyses are based on a unique database of individual incomes of the Social Insurance Agency in Slovakia.
