Based on the comparative analysis approach, the paper examines selected aspects of competi-tiveness of Slovakia among the Visegrad countries, when it attempts to identify opportunities and risks of the region as a destination for the foreign direct investment (FDI) as well as strengths and weaknesses of the individual countries of the Visegrad group. In order to follow this aim, the paper reviews results of the international competitiveness evaluations and indices focused on a business environment quality; and compares conditions for FDI attracting, in-cluding government policy of foreign investment promotion. The paper analyses changing factors of the TNCs investment strategies and recent trends in the FDI inflows in Visegrad countries with the aim to outline a potential of the SR in this field.
