The aim of the thesis is to point out the determinants and the context of polarization, which influence it in the present and also in the context of recent history. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between polarization and heterogeneity, on the links between polarization, aging of the population and diminishing the need for work. It answers the question why it is difficult to create a mosaic of contexts of polarization at present and for the future. It discusses some of the models of the future society and the perspective of polarization. It is pointed out that the polarization problem must be examined in systemic contexts, it can not be grasped otherwise than interdisciplinary and complex. Only in this way can the knowledge of income polarization be a significant cocreator of the future.
