The main objective of this paper is to answer the question, if after radical pension reform, that has its concrete form in changing the social insurance law and entering into force in 2004, the moderation or widening the gap in the main categories of pensions occurs. Besides quantitative analysis with using selected statistical methods, the paper highlights the relationships of population ageing and the need for intergenerational and intragenerational solidarities in the pension system. The solidarity in the pension system is needful in relation to new and old social risks, and especially for unemployment, that affects the reduction of pensions of the high percentage of older people and makes impossible for older people to live a dignified life after finishing their work activities. The part of the paper represents also the evaluation of actual development of pension system and the draft of its changes, so as the pension system as a whole would contribute to the moderation of income differences in the Slovak society.
