The study assesses changes in the structure of economy, namely in its individual fundamental parts (10 branches structure) and gradually also in more detail (64 branches structure), on the basis of share of each sector in added value and employment in the economy. It also analyzes the impact of the recession on individual sectors (annual changes after the year 2008), deter-mines how the individual sectors cope with the recessionary downturn so far and quantify the long-term trends in the individual sectors for the period from 2000 to 2008 and for the entire monitored period from 2000 to 2011. An integral part of the analysis is a comparison of the position of Slovakia to the EU-15 average, respectively to the selected EU member states. Statistical data are drawn from the Eurostat database.
