The aim of the paper is to identify the relevant relationships and contexts of demographic development, educational level, the employment and wage development with regard to perspectives for future at the level of the national economy, sectors and regions of the Slovak Republic. The selected areas are compared with developments in the Czech Republic, Hungary and the EU. Changes in the sectoral structure of employment, wage developments (average nominal wage) and wage polarization at the level of the districts of the SR are detected. Advanced statistical methods and own methodology is needed, mainly using a large database of individual administrative data from the Social Insurance Agency of the Slovak Republic. The need to investigate the concerned areas results from the expected changes in the labour market in relation to the fourth industrial revolution, which will affect employment in the form of requirements for new professions and the substitution of human labour. Technological unemployment can give significantly influence in the worsening of the wage polarization between the regions of the SR, therefore the development and the current situation are first identified.
