Europe produces the most knowledge of the world regions. Slovakia is part of this attractive place and processes that are ongoing. Compared to the EU in the field of education, R&D and innovation shows the limitations of the competitiveness of the Slovak economy and brings implications for relevant institutional policy of the Slovakia. The program Horizon 2020 is the major European initiative to support R&D and innovation for the period 2014-2020. Interna-tional comparisons show a degree of lag of Slovakia and they are the imperative to implement policies that will contribute to the competitiveness of firms and workers in Slovakia.
