In a time of rapid globalisation, many countries recognise that the combination of culture and commerce that the creative industry represents a powerful way of providing a distinctive image of a country or a city, helping it to bring the competitive advantage. Twenty years later, the concept of the creative industries, creative class and creative city and their importance, has been introduced into development politics by governments of advanced countries. The main objective of the paper is briefly survey the concept of creative economy and their measuring in the studies of foreign and Slovak authors. Moreover to introduce the essential documents of the European Union and Slovakia and to present the support resource of the creative and culture industry from European structural funds in programming period 2014 - 2020. The working paper is coupled with finding from surveys researchers' perception of the creativity and attitude of Slovak citizens toward life activity with context of knowledge-based society challenges.
