Author deals with the structural, economic and political aspects of an economic development. A special emphasis is laid on the analysis of global linkages of the Slovak economy and new challenges for an industrial policy. Recommendations for the Slovak industrial policy are based on the analysis of global value chains and explicit enquiry of market and government failures. Strategic interactions among various economic subjects are taking into account in the formulation of new industrial policy.
