Our colleagues Martin Hudcovský and Ivan Lichner attended the World Conference on Tobacco Control in Dublin, Ireland, on 23rd-25th of June 2025, where they presented the results of research on the taxation of tobacco products in Slovakia. These results show that if the tax burden on cigarette consumption increases, high-income households would contribute the largest share to the additional revenue to the state budget. Our colleagues then continued with expert discussions on reducing the negative impacts of smoking, and tobacco and nicotine use at the Eastern European Meeting (26th of June 2025), where they presented the interim results of research on alternative products such as smokeless tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, and nicotine pouches.
