We would like to invite you to the Empirical Seminar series organized by the Institute of Economic Research, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Šancová 56 that will be held in hybrid form (online and at the library of the Institute of Economic Research, Slovak Academy of Sciences). The seminar will take place on February 19th, 2025 at 10.00 (CET).
The speaker will be Petr Koráb (Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen, Germany).
The topic of the seminar is: When Bitcoin Becomes Macro: Decoding Blockchain Metadata to Localize Mining Activity
Authors:
Lucas Sebastian Wiese – Petr Koráb – Florian Horký Abstract: We propose a methodology for regional localization of Bitcoin mining using decrypted blockchain metadata. It consists of three main pillars: (1) data engineering platform for processing raw blockchain data, (2) analytical layer decoding mining pool names from human-readable characters, and (3) attribution of minion pools to global regions. With the structured approach, we provide researchers with both time and regional information about Blockchain block mining, which opens space for utilizing blockchain data for macroeconomic, policy-relevant research.
The seminar will be co-chaired by Filip Ostrihoň.
